One of the most gorgeous shapes to ever grace four wheels, the De Tomaso Mangusta is impossibly rare and after almost 45 years, still stunningly seductive. Meaning “Mongoose” in Italian, the Mangusta was the first car of De Tomaso to see mass production; if a total of 401 units can be considered “mass.” Powered by a high-performance Ford V8 believed to be producing well in excess of 300 horsepower, the big V8 is backed by the same ZF 5-speed transaxle used in the famed Ford GT-40 racers. Top speed is estimated at 155 m.p.h. and with a total height of only 43 inches, the sensation of speed is further magnified. The Mangusta rides on 15” Campagnolo cast-magnesium wheels, hulking beneath aggressively flared fenders, and a fastback tail with a distinctive dorsal rib on which twin-engine access covers are hinged gullwing-style. The images speak for themselves: this car is breathtaking.
The incredible Detomaso Mangusta featured here is finished in stunning dark red over a gorgeous black leather interior. Originally delivered new in Europe to its first owner and then brought to the United States where, reportedly, Carroll Shelby was commissioned to rebuild and blueprint the engine to his specifications; eventually ending up in a prominent collection for many years. This exquisite example has been meticulously maintained and recently serviced including new Michelin XWX tires and is now ready to be shown or driven. If it is not feasible for you to personally perform an inspection, we will gladly help facilitate an inspection by an independent service center of your choice and will make delivery arrangements of the vehicle for this purpose. All vehicles are sold in “AS IS” condition. Extended warranty options are available on most vehicles. Our goal is to provide you with the best service and buying experience as possible. All purchases include an additional 5 processing fee which covers the processing of paperwork, pre-vehicle delivery costs, FedEx shipping fees, and a 30-day temporary registration plate so that the vehicle can be driven prior to the title transfer.
